Back To School Packs
Through community assistance the Resource Center has been able
to provide new back packs or athletic bags containing school
supplies, new socks and underwear, and personal care items to
children living in foster, special needs, adoptive and kinship
homes.
Information & Referral
The Resource Center has a phone line available to
the community to
assist with information and referrals on becoming a foster parent
or adopting a special needs child.
Advocacy Program
Training advocates are available to offer information and
emotional support to foster, special needs, adoptive and kinship
families going through crisis.
Kids Packs
Kid Packs are “little bags of self esteem”. Most often when a
child comes into foster care or is placed unexpectedly with a
grandparent or other relative, they have been abruptly pulled from
their homes, school, neighborhood and friends with no belongings.
Packs provided to them by Resource Families include a new toy or
age appropriate item, new underwear, one change of clothing,
pajamas and personal care items.
A Case For Kids
Many times children in foster care need to move to different
foster homes or to more intense caring facilities. Based on the
belief that no child should have to move with their belongings in
a garbage bag, Resource Families collects and distributes
suitcases to children who must move to another family or facility.
Kinship Services
Through a contract with the Family Independence Agency, the
Resource Center is able to provide case management, training and
support group services to grandparents raising their
grandchildren.
Child Care Services
Take-A-Break Child Care Center provides regular care, drop-in
care and emergency child care to all families in Calhoun County.
The center is open from 6:00 a.m. to midnight weekdays and 6:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Any parent needing a “break” in
the day to day stress of caring for children can access
Take-A-Break’s services.
F.A.C.E.
F.A.C.E. stands for Foster, Adoptive and kinship
Children’s
Enrichment program. F.A.C.E. is designed to provide activities for
children that will help raise their self esteem. Sample activities
have been Saturday support groups, summer tutoring, family
activities, field trips, hands-on science programs and other
enrichment activities. Community grants and private donations
support this project.
Food Boxes
Foster, adoptive, kinship families and youth living in
independent living situations can receive food boxes each month.
Boxes contain cereals, canned goods, and special treats for the
children.
Clothing Closet
Because many children come into foster care with little or no
clothing, the center maintains a clothing closet to assist
families who may have emergency needs.
Occabot Team
Occabot is tobacco spelled backwards. The Occabot team is a
group of youth who have been rained in tobacco education facts and
activities. Representatives from this team share their information
at many of the Resource Center activities and are available to
present at other community events.
