Strengthening Families Program
Who:   A program for youth ages 10 - 14 and their parents/caregivers
 
What: Family skills building curriculum designed to bring families closer together by having fun.
 
Program
Format:
Every Tuesday for 7 weeks, 5:30 - 8:00pm, dinner and childcare are included!  Parent and youth meet separately for the first hour then come together for the second hour for games and family projects.
 
Designed To: Help parents build on their strengths in showing love and setting limits, help youth develop skills in handling peer pressure and building a positive future.
 
Where: Tuesdays starting February 8 - March 22
 
Where: St. Peter Lutheran church 1079 Riverside Drive, Battle Creek, MI
 
Registration: Call the Substance Abuse Council to reserve your spot!   269-968-4699 (ask for Heather)

Each session is held from 7:00pm - 9:00pm with Dr Randy Haugan and Mary Rossman, MSW at Battle Creek Counseling Associates, Battle Creek, MI located at 211 Capital Ave NE across from the Y Center.  Meetings are on the 2nd floor.  All parents are welcome to stop in anytime for one or more sessions.  The group is free to all foster, adoptive and relative caregivers.

Workshop - Trauma and PTSD in adolescents and children This highly charged and interactive session will cover signs and symptoms, courses of treatment, and promises to deliver practical strategies that can be implemented immediately.  Attendees will have opportunities to not only ask questions, but they will also participate in the process.

Location:  Calhoun County Department of Human Services (Department of Human Services (FIA)), 3rd floor conference room.
Time:  10:00am - 12:00pm and 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Food Distribution - Foster Adoptive Family Resource and Support Center
Food distribution for February will be from 10:00 am - noon and 4:00pm - 7:00pm.  Remember, it is important that you bring a Medicaid or WIC card with you.  This verification of need is a requirement from several of the sources where we get the food items.

Training with Dr. Zethelius
Location:  Starr Commonwealth (155 Garfield, Battle Creek)
Time:  6:00pm - 8:00pm

Dr. Zethelius will discuss ADHD and other Mental Health Disorders such as bipolar children.  Learn more about the children in care and perhaps the ones you are currently caring for.  It's not often we can get Dr.Zethelius to take time out of his busy schedule to do a training for us.

Please RSVP to Judy Larson at 269-966-2833. Snack and beverages will be provided.  Sorry, but we don't have childcare available although you can contact Take A Break Daycare in Urbandale and see if they have openings for drop in care that night.
