Resource Families are:
Foster and
adoptive families, relatives or caregivers who share parenting
with the birth family while seeking to find permanence, safety,
and stability for the child. These individuals are willing to
provide a permanent connection for the child whether or not the
child reunifies with their birth family. They play an active
role in linking the child to their past as well as guiding their
future.
Mission Statement
To establish a
coalition of foster, adoptive and kinship associations, support groups,
advocates, leaders and mentors who wish to work together to enhance the quality
of life for foster, adoptive and kinship children and the families who care for
them.
Vision
Statement Resource Families
of Michigan envisions a future in which:
- Resource
Families is recognized as effectively influencing and advocating for public
policy and legislation that enhances the success of foster, adoptive and kinship
children and the families who care for them.
- Individuals
and families choosing to be Resource Families
receive the respect and support of the state and community.
- Strong
community support for foster, adoptive, kinship children and the families who
care for them will be developed
throughout the state.
Goals
Encourage
community awareness and education through
collaborations and partnerships with other organizations. To help foster and
adoptive parents and other concerned
citizens work to improve services for foster and adopted children.
To train, inform and
support local foster, adoptive, kinship associations, support groups, leaders
and mentors so each community will have strong local advocates.
Build Community Support:
Resource Families of Michigan identifies, trains and informs
support groups, mentors, and parent foster, adoptive and kinship
leaders in the local community. These community leaders
will be identified on our web site so that people from their
community will be able to access support from people who are
aware of local community resources. Resource
Families offers technical assistance to groups who are striving
to educate their community on the needs of foster, adoptive,
kinship children and their families.
